Baby's First Birthday Party

Your baby's first birthday is a day worth celebrating in style as it is such an important milestone. Knowing what to do, however, can be difficult, particularly if you will be catering for a wide range of age groups and needs.

It can be a good idea to choose a theme for your baby's first birthday party. Whilst your baby may not understand the concept of a birthday party, they can appreciate the decorations - and the attention. Opting for a theme is a good idea as you can use motifs and characters with which your baby is familiar.

There are a number of different items available that can complement your theme. Streamers, banners, balloons, disposable cups and plates and even fancy dress can help to make your event special.

Animal themed birthdays are always a popular choice. If you have a pet and your baby has become attached to it then you may want to consider a cat or dog themed day. If they are interested in all animals then you could opt for a farm or zoo theme.

If your baby has an interest in television or book characters then why not use this as the theme for your event. Characters such as Bob the Builder, Dora the Explorer, the Hungry Caterpillar or Peppa Pig can give great opportunities for dressing up.

Fairies, firemen, princes and princesses or kings and queens are other ideas if you like the idea of a theme that includes fancy dress costumes. If your having a party where there will be a few older children then fancy dress can be a good way of keeping them entertained.

With so many different possibilities, it can be easy to get carried away. It is often best, however, to limit invitations to the party so that your baby is not overwhelmed. Having the party in your home can be a good idea so that your baby is in a familiar environment and not anxious about a new setting.

It is also important to work out the time of day that will work best for your baby. After all, you want them to enjoy the party rather than being cranky because the party is taking place in the middle of nap time.

With the party organized, all that remains is to decide what present to get your baby to celebrate their first birthday. Many people opt to give their baby something that will have sentimental value such as personalized teddy bears or personalised baby blankets. Others prefer to give them something of immediate use such as new toys. Whatever you opt for, you will be able to enjoy the thrill of giving your baby their first birthday presents.
